On July 21st, President Obama signed a directive stating that Federal Contractors are not allowed to discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This Executive Order amended the original Executive Order 11246 to prohibit federal contractors from discriminating against their employees on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. This order directs the Department of Labor to issue implementing regulations within 90 days of July 21, 2014. Federal contractors should immediately review their current EEO policies to make sure that sexual orientation and gender identity are included in the protected categories of their policies.
